I have been drawing letters informally for a long time, but recently I have started to teach myself the speedball techniques. I hope to learn some copperplate also. I'm also learning about designing my own typefaces.

I have a sign making business, and I do a small amount of hand painted lettering. I'm not very proficient, yet, so I mostly make patterns and paint from that. I'd like to get good enough to be able to letter freehand. I've done some fairly large jobs, and painted on all sorts of surfaces. Mostly, I just need to practice more...

I'm a completely dilettante PC font maker. You can view/download the ones I've made at www.sinistervisions.com/free.html
I can say with some assurance that you've seen my font "Zombified" somewhere already, if only around Halloween. In the goth/horror/industrial community, it's a standard (he said proudly) :)
I'm a total font-o-holic. I drive my wife nuts - she calls me FontGeek.
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Therefore, I admit nothing. I don't want to recover! -

Hey Chat,
Cool fonts! What type of reference do you use when designing them?
This is the place for all font geeks

Heh. Chad. "Chat" is what we're doing right now. ;)
The last few I've done started life as freeform Adobe Illustrator logo designs. I'm talking about Raven's Claws, Ripley's Claws, NekroKids and Haunting Attraction. I created the letterforms for specific logos, then built out the rest of the letterforms and font-ified them.
Oddly enough, only one of the four was actually approved by a client in its original form, but I've used the subsequent fonts in at least 4 logos since!

You're fonts are GREAT!
01/30Just went over to take a peek at sinistervisions and am in awe of your work! I envy you your font creation and cyber art talents. Like you, I love fonts and like to play with them in a more prosaic way putting together our Calligrapher's Guild newsletter.

I'm a calligrapher who specializes in brush calligraphy, both flat brush and pointed brush. I'll try to remember to scan some samples into my computer at home and upload 'em so everyone can see. I also do pen calligraphy and am self-taught in that department but had two wonderful teachers for brush callig, Carl Rohrs, sign-painter and calligrapher from Santa Cruz whose free-flowing lettering inspired my passion for working with the brush, and the late Fran Strom Sloan, who approached brush lettering from the Japanese style and whose tutelage complemented what I'd learned from Carl.
